Norman,

You have "/lib/libgcc_s.so.1" but not "/lib/libgcc_s.so" as a link to it? 

Is /lib/ssa in the normal search path (as defined in /etc/ld.so.conf)? 
I am starting to suspect my assumption that the system libgcc_s.so.1
would always be in /lib is the fly in the ointment.
