[FWTools] OGR Shapefile Creation Issue

I'm just tossing this out there to see if anyone else has had issues with shapefiles generated through OGR not reflecting their true extents on load.
 
I've got a situation where I am creating a 1 degree x 1 degree shapefile through code from scratch, containing lines.  When I'm done adding features I destroy the data source, then reload it, checking its extents.  Even though the data is all there (I can view the file in a 3rd party mapping tool), the extents being reported back to me through OGR are cut off along the latitude.
 
Has anyone else seen this behavior?
