[ka-Map-users] IE broken images

Jacob - thanks for digging into this problem. I have a MapServer
application (www.mapmorph.net/douglas) that I was having the same
problem with in IE. At times it would give me broken image links. It
uses a similar concept as Ka-map in that it requests many images at once
and stacks them.

This was driving me absolutely nuts, because it worked fine on most PC's
with the same version of IE and did not work on only a couple. But it
always worked in Firefox. It also did not give me any js errors.

I took a look at my registry setting that you mentioned and it was set
to 10,000 also. I changed it to 5 and now everything works as expected.
!@#($soft.

I just wanted to say thanks for this discussion; you have saved me from
pulling my hair out.

Thanks again!
Brian

Jacob -

Yes, I think the "automated mindless policy" theory's a good one.

I realized after I sent my note that an XP server could be a problem -
your explanation makes more sense now. I just always try to remain a
*little* skepticism when I think I've found a problem!

Ed,

Our IT guys suspect it may be a policy rolled down from our US office,
implemented by someone not considering negative impacts. The reason it
crashes my server is that it requests too many tiles at once. Especially
before the changes in ka-map that prevent loading of invisible layers,
it would try to get 160 tiles at once (mostly high-res full-colour). If
those requests were sent simultaneously, rather than sequentially, then
IE itself can get messed up, but the server as well. I'm not using your
kind of hardware :) Our internal server is a pc (3.2GHz, 1GB), running
XP (not Windows Server). I'm quite sure that that is the reason why the
internet standard is 2. I think firefox uses 24 by default.

Regards,

Jacob
