[ka-Map-users] ka-Map and OpenLayers

Steve, we've taken a small step towards having tiling support right
in MapServer, but we haven't gone very far with it. I'm not sure
where the cut off should be in functionality. I think MapServer
should be able to create tiles (a map draw in the context of
surrounding tiles) but I'm not sure that MapServer should also be
able to manage a cache of tiles. I'd be interested in what you think
about this. In particular, the labelling issue is a big one for me
and I would like to know if you have any thoughts on how to mitigate
labelling problems when rendering small(ish) tiles (other than what
we already do).

MapGuide already has a built in tile generation and caching
mechanism, and the sample client app has the capability to work with
tiles. Having spoken directly to Bob on the subject, the tiling
support is fairly simplistic right now (no cache size management etc)
but it does work quite nicely.

Cheers

Paul
