[ka-Map-users] extent parameter in mapfiles

hy, Can you tell me in witch units are the EXTENTS in mapfiles? or it 
depends on the shape file? i have an example where its puts a Word map 
on screen . And in the map File EXTENT -180 -90 180 90 so what is -180 
and so on?
