I agree with Mitshu that the connection between MS and
PG makes for a world apart from serving up static
shapefile data. Here at HostGIS, the majority of the
projects we do involve putting the data in PG first
off because we expect to be editing it later. Then we
have apps for editing the data from a map view, which
is really spiffy.

I'll be glad when PostGIS 1.0 comes out. The adverts 
implied that it would have much better performance
over the previous versions.
