Hello folks,
First of all, thanks to Tyler Mitchell for setting
up this mailing list! An excellent idea and hopefully
it will give us all a chance to discuss
mapserver-related regional issues in a slightly less
crowded forum than the main mapserver list.
Anyhow, my name is Matt Perry and I'm currently
finishing up my graduate work in Natural Resources
from Humboldt State University in Arcata, CA. I've
used mapserver for many projects over the past 2 years
and there is still more to learn ;-) My graduate
project looks at using mapserver as a WMS to serve
data for undergradute class assignments. I am also
involved in teaching GIS labs and further developing
our GIS program here at HSU.
Outside of the classroom, I have done lots of
mapserver/GIS related work. My secondary area of
interest is in water resource management so I have
worked on some interesting projects in that capacity.
I also work with HostGIS and have been working with
them to devlop a solid environment for webGIS
management.
Recently, I have begun work with the Center for
Integrative Coastal Observation, Research and
Education (http://cicore.humboldt.edu) to try and
bring some real-time data through a
mapserver/postgis-based webGIS.
So this list provides a great opportunity for me to
ask this question...
Do we have anyone on the west coast using
mapserver/postgis/etc. to do coastal mapping? Does
anyone have any technical experience with real-time
sensors that they'd be willing to share? How about the
integration of Mapserver with OpenDAP data sources?
The world of oceanography is new to me so any
discussion that we could get going along these topics
would help me out a great deal.
Thanks,
Matt Perry
