[Mapserver-west] introduction/ oceanography question

Hi Matt:

I am just getting going on extracting data downloaded from a system of
sensors tagged on great whites down in S Australia. I use PHP Mapscript
and Mapserver and Postgresql on Linux/Windows. I'll have more on this
as I get into it.

I'll have to write some middleware(maybe Java) to get the data into the
proper format from the raw data to the proper PostGIS record format.
One of the last releases of PostGIS added a function much easier to add
data like this. I forget it off-hand. Part of the data filtering will
have to implement some spatial analysis to exclude points where the
sharks end up on the beach(obviously just bad GPS points I hope). I was
shocked to see how close whitey does get to shore after surfing off of
SF for so many years.
