  Ehm
 hello,

Thanks. Yes it worked, I was able to delete the Apache2 service using the command:
  httpd -k uninstall -n "Apache2"
(I used to try without double quotes)

However, the main problem is still there. I have reinstalled the software, but I cannot start the service Apache MS4W Web Server using apache-install.bat . The service is set to start automatically but as it start it fails immediately with this message (from the error logs):

  [Sat Oct 21 16:42:38 2006] [notice] Apache/2.2.3 (Win32) configured -- resuming normal operations
  [Sat Oct 21 16:42:38 2006] [notice] Server built: Jul 27 2006 16:49:49
[Sat Oct 21 16:42:38 2006] [notice] Parent: Created child process 2744
[Sat Oct 21 16:42:38 2006] [notice] Child 2744: Child process is running
[Sat Oct 21 16:42:38 2006] [crit] (OS 10022) invalid argument : Child 2744: setup_inherited_listeners(), WSASocket failed to open the inherited socket.
[Sat Oct 21 16:42:38 2006] [crit] Parent: child process exited with status 3 -- Aborting.

The same error occurs when trying from the command line:

  C:\ms4w\Apache\bin>httpd -k install -n "Apache MS4W Web Server"
Installing the Apache MS4W Web Server service
The Apache MS4W Web Server service is successfully installed.
  Testing httpd.conf....
Errors reported here must be corrected before the service can be started.

I also tried, unsuccessfully, to change the listening port (it was 80) in the file http.conf , to prevent conflicts.

  What else can I try?

  Thanks
  Bill

  Hi Bill,

what is your second Apache, is it an old MS4W install?

What happens if you deinstall both, and then only install the new one.

httpd -k -uninstall -n Apache2
httpd -k -uninstall -n Apache MS4W Web Server
httpd -k -install -n Apache MS4W Web Server

?

Best regards,
Bart
