Kevin,

As you mentioned, since MS4W 2.1 the MrSID support has been build into 
this GDAL build (no plugin is needed anymore).

I have MS4W 2.2.2 and just tested a MrSID image in gdalinfo and in a 
MapServer mapfile with no problems.
