Thanks for reporting.  I do encourage all users to report issues through 
the MS4W issue tracker (emails are often forgotten or missed, whereas 
the issue tracker will record all comments).

I have filed a ticket for this 
(http://bugzilla.maptools.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2155) , and it will be 
fixed in beta10 (which will be shortly, because I see GDAL 1.7.0 is 
released).  Please add yourself to the ticket CC and report your testing.
