If you are using wms, then there are lots of ways to change parameters by
url.  See for example, bbox at this link
http://mapserver.org/es/ogc/wms_server.html?highlight=BBOX  There are some
others listed there, but generally, I think that MapServer implements all
those required by the WMS spec.
