Many projections have very similar computations and can be
processed with one set of equations that have constants altered
or minor path variations.  These are lumped into a single
C file with multiple initialization entry points.

I think the term "composite" needs some defining.  At first
I thought you meant something like Goode's projection where
two different projections are used in two different regions.
In Winkel-Tripel, the Aitoff projection and the equirectangular
are averaged.

The time-line for W1, W2 and WT is 1914, 1915 and 1921 so
WT might be Winkel's third projection. (?)
