This is the ellipsoidal transverse Mercator mapping the entire ellipsoid onto 
the plane. The ellipsoid is WGS 84. Smaller eccentricities stretch the map 
more horizontally and increase the longitude of the cusp; greater eccentricities 
compress the map horizontally and decrease the longitude of the cusp. The 
region along the central meridian from the north to south pole corresponds to the 
Universal Transverse Mercator.
