Frank,
they were mainly from various messages posted to news groups... the 
first ones to pop up in the list.
One was in a message you posted at

so I wouldn't worry about trying to track down old posts. I did not find 
links from particular sites.  If I knew how to use the tools and had 
someone funding me I'd help with tutorial and educational tools, but so 
far I'm still a grunt in my carreer.

With GRASS we're working towards some under graduate curriculumn for 
field course. so maybe there is some room for some quickee ttol tips.

if anyone has good resources we could help compile pre-existing ones.

Also a good geomatics book list/review (O'Reily like) would be good. 
I'll check out your previous title.
