All,

Yes this thread has resulted in a very interesting conversation - many
issues from the transformation "black-box" have been drawn out into the
open.

What follows doesn't deal with Jochem's initial issue but,

if you are interested in general background readers may like to monitor the
web pages supporting Australia's move to a adopt a new national datum -
http://www.icsm.gov.au/gda2020/index.html

This whole site is intended to make matters pertaining to datums (and
transformations) more accessible - meaning providing explanations that are
conceptual in conjunction with technical content.

While it is in an Australian context, much of the material is relevant
globally and there is still a lot of extra content planned.

In particular http://www.icsm.gov.au/gda2020/faqs-2.html, currently in early
stages of development, will be expanded to include resources (primarily
additions to the Fact Sheet series) that explain as simply as possible
general issues outlined in this thread including -
the hidden nasty's regarding different transformation approach's, stuff
about EPSG codes (in an Australian context),treating WGS84 as a "static" or
"plate-fixed" datum and using it as a hub.

Please follow this site as it develops and importantly feel free to
contribute suggestions regarding the content if you have any.
