I remember having similar problems a little while ago with Mozilla after 
upgrading my system to JRE 1.5.0. I was getting intermittent crashes not 
only with ROSA, but also with other sites with applets. I reverted back 
to JRE 1.4.2 and never had any more crashes. I'm not sure what was the 
exact source of my problem, but if you're running JRE 1.5.0 as well then 
that may be worth a try.
