[Cartoweb-users] turning template items on or off

If I want to turn items that are visible to the user on or off, what 
would be the best way to do that:
- In the template belonging to the plugin
- in the general cartoclient.tpl template?

When I turn them of in the plugin-templates, does this mean that I have 
to copy all the standard plugins to the project dir in order to change a 
few lines in these files?
