[FWTools] How to convert vmap0 data to shape?

First let me say that I'm pretty new to GIS.
I got a problem  converting vmap0-data to shapefiles using FW-Tools 
(running on Win XP).
When typing ogrinfo gltp:\vrf\C:\v0eur\vmaplv0\eurnasia all I get is an 
"unable to open datasource"-error.
I figure I got the same problems discussed earlier here:

Anybody managed to convert the data and/or got an idea/solution?
I'd appreciate any help!
