I'm not sure where you saw this mis-link.  The "FWTools
1.0.0a7 (Linux)" link on http://fwtools.maptools.org link
seems OK.

I tried gdalinfo -mm on my usual utm.tif on a couple
systems without any problems.  Of course these aren't
very "clean" systems.  If anyone can get a better idea of
what is wrong, I would appreciate hearing.  Alternatively,
having temporary ssh access to a problem machine would
be helpful.
