A few months ago I prepared a "build kit" for FWTools and placed it at:

   http://www.gdal.org/dl/fwtools/openev_bld.zip

But it would be quite a job to modify this to use a different version of
python (I think).  Nevertheless, that is about the most I have to offer,
and that without documentation.
