[FWTools] GDAL hanging under Windows 2008 Server

Stephen,

The ECW driver used by FWTools is (I think) the old one where I hand
build the ECW SDK source. I don't really trust it, and I suspect it is
the source of the problem, though I have also heard reports of similar
problems with GDAL and the latest SDK as built by Leica so I'm not sure
if upgrading will help.

Unfortunately, to upgrade you would need to move to something other than
FWTools, which might be difficult in your context.

Is there any possibility to avoid ECW imagery?

Best regards,
