[FWTools] DWG to Shape

Dear List;

I need to translate a  whole bunch of dwg to shp, these dwg's are in version
above 2000 so first I'll be using teigha dwg converter in order to make them
version 2000 so I can work in ogr; I'll be using this command to extract
each layer as a shape
ogr2ogr new_map_from_layer_X.shp -where "LAYER = 'X'"
shape_converted_from_DWG_lines.shp

My question is:
is there a way to get all the values stored in field layer so I can create a
script that can do the hard work for me?
