Joćo, You can manually type in the name of a .tab file in MapEdit, but the file selection dialog only recognizes .shp extensions for now. One enhancement we have on the books is to provide support for multiple extensions in the file selection dialog, but no one is currently offering funding for this, so it is low on the priority list.
