Hi there:
So here's some introductory thoughts around my interests w.r.t. MapServer:
1. Using MapServer and PostGIS together.
2. Automating how MapServer and PostGIS and GDAL/OGR can work together.
I think MapServer, PostGIS together make a terrific combination. And with
GDAL/OGR -- you have a triad of technologies that could be the
"infrastructure" for a very powerful web-centric GIS system. I think of them
as the engine, transmission system equivalents of a vehicle -- with the
challenge being to build a good user interface -- i.e. a dashboard -- on top
of them, so people can drive -- spatially -- where they need to go.
My interests tend to focus on the query/analytical side -- i.e. how can
these tools be packaged so they are simple enough to operate by planners for
developing and visualizing management scenarios -- where those scenarios
have a strong spatial component, and the data can be stored in PostGIS
either as individual unlinked tables, or as a proper schema.
There's a bit of a cycle here in developing scenarios:
Access data via GDAL/OGR ---->
------> Manipulate data via PostGIS
-------> Visualize Data via MapServer
--------> repeat and refine scenario.
Of course you want the user to just be focussed on driving -- not on how the
engine, the power-train, the transmission are all connected together.
