Well, I was hoping to release Thursday though I could wait till early
next week.

What we could do as a stop-gap is implement support for 64bit integer
fields in the GDAL version of the dbfopen.c code using GDAL data types
and then work on retrofitting this back into shapelib over a longer
period. I can proceed on that on a "hack basis" myself. But I hate
having shapelib and GDAL out of sync for long.
